Abstract
Objective To investigate the variation of the corneal endothelial cells of diabetic cataractsurgery with advanced wide-field specular microscope. Methods Endothelial cell density(ECD), average cellarea, coefficient of variation of cell area (CV) and percentage of hexagonal cell for 30 eyes in 28 diabetic cataractcases were examined preoperatively and postoperatively by using advanced wide-field specular microscope.Results The density of the corneal endothelium was (2334.61±322.42) mm2 in preoperative and (2045.23±376.82) mm2 in postoperative 3~6 months. The loss rate of the corneal endothelium was 12.11% in postoperative3~6 months. The average cell area of the corneal endothelium increased from preoperative (340.29±127.22) um2to postoperative (390.12±213.44) um2. The CV increased from preoperative 42.55% to postoperative 53.21%.The percentage of hexagonal cells of corneal endothelium decreased from preoperative (54.32 ±12.53)% topostoperative (45.51±13.93)%. All the results were statistically significant difference (P0.05). ConclusionsThe density of corneal endothelium decreased, and the loss rate of corneal endothelium increased after operation3~6 months. The average cell area and the CV increased. The percentage of standard hexagonal cells decreased.All the results meaned that diabetic cataract surgery which damaged corneal endothelium. But the corneas weretransparent and the patients had good acuity vision. So that, operation is an important means for diabetic cataract.
