Abstract
Based on a comparison with LU Ji's陆基A Collection of Frequently Used Homonyms in Suzhou Dialect《苏州同音常用字汇》in 1935,the paper sums up the phonology of Suzhou dialect in LU Maoxiu's陆懋修Words in the Dialect《乡音字类》in 1877.The conclusions are:initial consonants[d(?)]remained different from[(?)],it had eight tone categories,and Shangshen with voiced initial became Yangqu.The author argues that Words in the Dialect《乡音字类》reflected the literal phonology of Suzhou dialect in the mid-19th century.
