Abstract
The fundamental questions of DENG Xiao-ping's theory is an important part of the Three Basic Questions and the Five Contemporary Questions. The first basic question is to know what is socialism and how to construct it. It is the basic of the scientific socialism in DENG Xiao-ping's theory. DENG Xiao-ping has enriched and developed Marxism scientifically profoundly and accurately, he firstly discloses that the essence of socialism is to liberate and develop productivity, to eliminate esploitation and the differentiation between the the poor and the rich, and to come to common prosperity eventually. The knowledge of socialism is promoted to a new level. So the key to liberate thought in new period is on this.
