Treatment Experience of 43 Acute Paraquat Poisoning Cases

Objective To review the treatment of acute paraquat poisoning. Methods 43 cases of acute paraquat poisoning in Shuangliu first people's hospital from February 2006 to March 2008 were divided into two groups according to survival or death, the clinical indexes were analyzed retrospectively. Results The survival rate was 18.60%, the average medication and treatment time of the survival group were much lower than the death group, none in survival group had multiple organ failure, 17 cases in death group had respiratory failure and 19 cases had muhiple organ failure. Conclusion The mortality of paraquat poisoning was high, survival or not mainly depended on dosage of paraquat and the emergency of treatment, it is important to take gastric lavage as soon as possible after the poisoning as well as to use adsorbents, and it is advocted to use comprehensive drug treatment and dialysis plus hemoperfusion.
