Abstract

Objective To explore the efficacy of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE) for postoperative recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma and the factors related efficacy. Methods Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization was performed in 38 patients who were identified as having recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma by ultrasonography, computed tomography and hepatic arterial angiography after resection of hepatocellular carcinoma. The related efficacy and survival were observed. Results The response rate(CR+PR)was 42.1%;the rate of normal AFP if elevated before TACE was 29% and the rate of AFP decreased was 41%.The 1-,2-and 3-year survival rates were 76.3%,52.6% and 34.2% respectively. Univariate analysis showed that the TNM extent of lesion, the size of lesions( single or multiple) and the times of TACE were the related factors of prognosis(P0.05).Conclusion Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization can improme the survival of patients with postoperative recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma and the enough TACE times has further improvement.
