Effects of montelukast on Th1/Th2 balance in patients with cough variant asthma

OBJECTIVE To investigate effects of montelukast on Th1/Th2 balance in patients with cough variant asthma(CVA).METHODS Sixty CVA patients were randomly divided into control group and treatment group,with 30 patients in each group.In control group,doxofylline were given orally,budesonide and terbutaline sulfate aerosol were inhaled;in treatment group,10mg montelukast was added on the basis of the control group, taken orally at bedtime,10 days as a course of treatment in both groups.RESULTS After one course of treatment, the response rate was 76.7%and the total effective rate was 100.0%in treatment group,both were significantly higher than those in control group(43.3%;83.3%)(P0.05).IFN-γ/IL-4 ratios of treatment group and control group were basically the same before treatment(P0.05);IFN-γ/IL-4 ratio of treatment group was significantly higher than that of control group after treatment(P0.05).CONCLUSION Montelukast plays a certain regulatory role on Th1/Th2 balance in CVA patients,shows a definite curative effect on the treatment of CVA,and has a certain clinical application value.
