Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of Medpor(porous polyethylene) implantation in surgical reconstruction of orbital blow-out fractures.?Methods135 orbital blow-out fracture patients received orbital reconstruction with Medpor implantation.For medial orbital wall fractures,a medial orbitotomy or transconjunctival approach were used.For orbital floor or a combination of orbital floor and medial orbital wall fractures,a subciliary lower eyelid skin or transconjunctival approach were used.The inferior rectus,the medial rectus and orbital soft tissue that had prolapsed through the fracture were replaced and a Medpor sheet was inserted into the subperiosteal space.?Results Postoperatively,the exophthalmos increased 1.5~5 mm,and was-2~+2 mm compared with the contra lateral eye,and the appearance is similar to that before trauma.Postoperatively,the diplopia disappeared at 1 month in 103 patients(76.30%),and at 3 months in 128 patients(94.81%).?Conclusion For orbital blow-out fracture patients,orbital reconstruction with Medpor implantation should be performed shortly after trauma so that the exophthalmos and diplopia can be improved and treated effectively.
