Abstract
Zeng Ji ze was the famous patriotic diplomat in Chinese modern history. His diplomatic thought derived from both Chinese and western cultures. He was one of significant representatives who transformed from a traditional diplomat to a modern one. His diplomatic thought reflected the developing trend of Chinese diplomacy at that time, and was doubtless embodied in the negotiations between China and Russion as well as between China and France. He was different not only from the people who argued for peace but also from those who claimed for war.
