Abstract
Objective The study aimed to determine the expression levels of BDNF, NSE, and S100B cytokines in cerebrospinal fluid of children with febrile convulsion. Methods Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure the levels of BDNF, NSE, and S100B in 50 children with febrile convulsion and 15 healthy controls. Results 50 children with febrile convulsion were divided into a mild group, a moderate group, and a severe group, based on their frequencies and times of convulsion and their mental conditions. Expression of the three cytokines in cerebrospinal fluid of the three groups were significantly higher than those of the control group(P0.01). Expression of the three cytokines in cerebrospinal fluid of the severe group was significantly higher than those of the mild and moderate groups(P0.01). Expression of the three cytokines in cerebrospinal fluid of the moderate group was significantly higher than those of the mild group(P≤0.05). Conclusion The levels of BDNF, NSE, and S100B in cerebrospinal fluid may be used as early indicators for the progression of febrile convulsion in children.
