The role of serum IL-8 in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in different periods

Objective To study the role of interleukin-8( IL-8) and neutrophils in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease( COPD) in different periods,as well as with COPD prognosis. Methods The patients in acute exacerbation of COPD of 120 cases were diagnosed,and the serum levels of IL-8 and neutrophils in patients of new admission and posttreatment was measured. Those of the control group were also measured,and the data was analyzed by software. Results The serum levels of IL-8 and neutrophilsin patients with acute exacerbation of COPD were significantly higher than those of normal control group( P 0. 05),and the serum levels of IL-8 and neutrophils in patients with treatment group and deterioration group were significantly higher than those of normal control group( P 0. 05). Conclusion Through the comparison of serum IL-8,neutrophilsin in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease( COPD),it showed that they played an important role in the development of airway inflammation. IL-8 and neutrophils increased significantly in the acute exacerbation of COPD,and were important indexes to judge the infection.
