Combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine for Acute Appendicitis:A Report of 30 Cases

Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of combination of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine for acute appendicitis in grass-roots or community hospitals.Methods A total of 30 patients were examined and diagnosed as acute appendicitis,and didn't fit to operate at that time due to a variety of reasons.Antibiotics were administered intravenously(iv,gtt)for 7 days and at the same time,traditional Chinese medicine,acupuncture and moxibustion were performed in these patients.Results Abdominal pain in cured or improved patients was alleviated in the first day of treatment,and was fundamentally relieved in 1～4 days.Twenty-seven patients were confirmed normal by ultrasound examination after treatment.The cure rate averaged 90%,and effective rate was 93.33%.The result achieved by this combination method was better than that by traditional Chinese medicine or Western medicine alone.Conclusion The combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine is a promising and effective regime in the treatment of acute appendicitis.
