Abstract

Modern requirements of powerhouse operation and maintenance can create demands on older governing systems that are beyond the equipment's capability. Significant amounts of time, effort and money are being invested into the modernization of hydro equipment of all sizes and types. This paper addresses strategies that justify the application of digital control equipment to modernize existing governor systems. The strategies described relate to product support, maintenance, operation and reliability. As a summary, these strategies are addressed specifically to their capability to meet future needs.
