Abstract
Using time-of-flight techniques to measure the neutron spectra, direct reaction neutrons from the V/sup 51/(p,n)Cr/sup 51/ were observed for proton bombarding energies above 10 Mev. These neutrons were observed to come from a level (or levels) in Cr/sup 51/ at 6.5 Mev. Results indicated that the assumption of compound nucleus formation in this reaction is valid. It was also concluded that the level at 6.5 Mev in Cr/sup 51/ is excited via a direct reaction, and that the level is the analog of the ground state of V/sup 51/ and is therefore a T = 5/2 state.
