Abstract
The composition and equilibrium constants of zirconium and hafnium complexes with diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (H/sub 5/P) were studied using an ion exchange method in a highly acid medium. It was found that five ions of hydrogen break away in the H/sub 5/P reaction with Zr/sup 4+/ and Hf/sup 4+/. The formation constants for ZrP and HfP are equal to (13.8 plus or minus 1.9) x 10/sup 4/ and (4.3 plus or minus 0.3) x 10/sup 4/, respectively. (R.V.J.)
