Abstract

The challenges faced by the Australian publishing industry, such as takeovers, expansion by overseas publishers into the local market, and involvement of large corporations in publishing, are discussed. It is suggested that local publishing must be encouraged and improved, since the professionalism seen in Australian publishing is superior to that in countries overseas.
