Abstract

A new combined-cycle plant extension in Den Haag, the Netherlands, will begin commercial operation in January 1983, supplying 75 MW of electrical power to the regional utility's grid and up to 80 MW thermal power for district heating to commercial and residential customers. Powered by two Rolls-Royce SK30 gas turbines each site-rated at 25 MW, the plant is designed for high operational flexibility. It can meet varying heat and power requirements during fall, winter, and spring by running in the electric-power-only mode with no district heating, producing electric power with partial district heating, or, for maximum efficiency, operating with full heating and full electric output. In the last mode the utility expects a maximum natural gas saving of 298,000 CF , 86% thermal efficiency, and a 20% reduction in cooling load with a 10% increase in station capacity.
