Abstract
A method of preparing Y/sup 90/ suitable for therapeutic purposes is described. Y/sup 90/ is separated from Sr/sup 90/ using di(2-ethyl hexyl) onthophosphoric acid with subsequent cleaning. Y/sup 90/ is then co-precipitnted with Fe(OH)/sub 3/ and is ready for use. The purity of the product is controlled by the procedure of ion exchange focusing. The method yields a Y/sup 90/ with a radiochemical purity greater than 99.9999 per cent; the decontaminntion factor with respect to Sr/sup 90/ is greater than 10/sup 6/. The half-life of the Y/sup 90/ was determined, and a value of 63.74 plus or minus 0.1 hr was obtained. The yield of Y/sup 90/ was between 95 and 99 per cent. (auth)
