Abstract

A field trial was carried out to compare the efficacy of synthetic insecticides and bio-pesticides against two species of aphids together, viz. Myzus persicae and Aphis gossypii. The efficacy of phorate 10G, carbofuran 3G, acephate 75SP, lindane 6.5 WP, Bacillus subtilis 109 spore count/ml, Beauveria bassiana 108 spore count/ml, azadirachtin 10,000 ppm and NPV were evaluated against the pests. The granular systemic insecticides were most effective for a long time in reducing the aphid population. Acephate, B. subtilis and azadirachtin were also effective for the pest for a short period. But the efficacy of these bio-pesticides was not at par with synthetic insecticides.
