Abstract

[Objective] To analyze the characteristics of public health emergencies and explore the points of prevention and control, and to provide scientific basis for making responding system of public health emergency in Jiangsu Province. [Methods] The data of the public health emergencies in Jiangsu Province from 2006 to 2008 were collected, Excel and SPSS 11.5 were used to analyze the data. [Results] In Jiangsu Province, the number of the public health emergencies were increased yearly, the major types of public health emergencies were infectious disease and food poisoning. The winter and spring were the peaks. 61.68% of public health emergencies were found in rural areas, and 76.28% of public health emergencies were found in all kinds of school and nursery. 82.93% of infectious disease was respiratory infectious disease. The biotic factor was responsible for lots of food poisoning (57.14%). 77.78% occupational poisonings were caused by toxic chemical gas. Varicella, mumps, influenza, rubella and cholera were the major public health emergencies according to comprehensive evaluation. [Conclusion] The situation of the public health emergencies is not optimistical. Comprehensive prevention and control measures about monitoring and controlling infective diseases should be emphasized to decrease the threat of public health emergencies.
