Epidemiological analysis of public health emergencies in Zunyi, 2007-2011

Abstract

OBJECTIVE To understand the epidemiological characteristics of public health emergencies from 2007 to 2011 in Zunyi, and provide a reference for the prevention and control of public health emergencies. METHODS Descriptive epi- demiological method was applied in the analysis on information of 2007 -2011 public health emergencies. RESULTS 434 public health emergencies had been reported from 2007-2011 in Zunyi City, involving in 7 243 patients and 38 cases died. There were 395 infectious disease events (91.01%), 34 food poisoning (7.84%), other poisonings (0.23%), events due to environmental factors (0.23%), other public health emergencies (accounting for 0.69%). The high-incidence seasons were from April to July (61.06%) and from October to December (23.73%) . 179 events occurred in the school, accounting for 41.0124% of the total number of events. CONCLUSION Prevention and control of infectious diseases is the focus of public health emergencies of Zunyi City, especially in schools. Prevention and control strategy is strengthening the monitoring and immunization management. Secondly, food poisoning is still the focus of public health.
