Abstract
Objective To provide reference for future control of iodine deficiency disorders(IDD) in Nanzheng County of Shaanxi Province by monitoring IDD control since 1998 and evaluating control effect. Methods National Control and Monitoring Program of Iodine Deficiency Disease and National Phase Assessment Goal and Program of Eliminating Iodine Deficiency Disorders in China were taken to investigate iodine content in residents' salt, urinary iodine and goiter rate of children aged from 8 to 10 years old. Results Monitoring data showed that qualified rate of consumption of iodized salt of residents was from 87.5% in 1998 to 97.9% in 2008,county-wide coverage rate of iodized salt reached 100% during 2006-2008;median of urinary iodine of children aged form 8 to 10 years was 178.26 μg/L to 377.14 μg/L;goiter rate of the children decreased from 10.8% in 1998 to 4.2% in 2008.Conclusions Quality of iodized salt in Nanzheng County has been ensured, and prevention and control of IDD have made remarkable achievements.
