Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during winter (rabi) season of 2005–06 on farmer field in the vicinity of CSWRI, Aviknagar (Rajasthan), to find out the effect of nitrogen levels and time of application on growth and yield of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.). The results of study revealed that all the growth yield attributes and grains weight were significantly influenced with increasing in nitrogen levels. However, maximum increase was: with 150% of recommended dose of nitrogen i.e. (90 kg N/ha.). The green fodder, straw and grain yied with 150% (90 kh N/ha) of recommended dose of nitrogen increased by 34.52, 16.07 and 40.20 and 10.73, 6.82 and 8.12% over 50% (30 kg N/ha) and 100% (60kg N/ha) of recommended doses of nitrogen respectively. Among the time of application of nitrogen in barley crop at different growth. stages had significant effect on growth and yield attributing characters. Meanwhile, these were the maximum when nitrogen was applied in three splits (half basal. quarter each at tillering and panicle initiation) followed by two splits (half basal and half at tillering). Similar, higher green forage, dry matter and grain yield were recorded when nitrogen applied in three splits i.e. half basal, quarter each at tillering and panicle initiation.
