Abstract

In the neutron energy region E/sub n/ = 3.7--5.0 MeV we have measured the angular distributions of fission fragments in the reaction /sup 226/Ra(n, f), substantially improving the results of previous experiments. Calculations for /sup 227/Ra and /sup 228/Ac and a qualitative analysis of the experimental data in the broader region of nuclei Ra--Pu which undergo fission in the (n, f) reaction show that with change of Z there is a rapid change in the energy dependence of the angular anisotropy of near-threshold fission. The set of observed properties discussed can be explained by changes in the shape of the barrier, which are predicted by calculations of the deformation potential energy.
