Abstract

Injecting SO/sub 3/ into the gas stream ahead of the electrostatic precipitator can upgrade collection efficiency of existing precipitators, and can reduce the size and cost of new installation. Its effect, however, depends on the characteristics of the coal burned. The benefits of SO/sub 3/ injection are discussed.
