Abstract
The complex of zinc(lI) with 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN) in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTMAB) is soluble in water. This is the principle of the direct spectrophotometric method of zinc determination which was elaborated. Absorption spectra of this complex solubilized with CTMAB and PAN-CTMAB solu tion were made. The composition of the complex zinc(II)-PAN was determined. Opti mum concentrations of PAN and CTMAB ensuring maximum absorbance were defined. The effect of foreign ions was elucidated. The maximum absorbance is observed at 554 nm with the molar absorptivity 5.0x10 4I mol! cm'. The Beer's law is obeyed for zinc concentrations over the range 0.1-1.0 lAg ml. Statistical assessment of elaborated method of zinc determination was carried out. The method has been applied for the determination of zinc in insulin.
