Abstract

The effect of γ-radiation on monoterpene alcohols, geraniol and nerol, was studied. Solutions of nerol and geraniol in methanol were irradiated using 60 Co source of strength 5.1 Gy min −1 . Nerol was found to be stable toward γ-radiation, whereas geraniol was isomerized into nerol and linalool, which were isolated from the reaction mixture. Thus, reagent-free isomerization of geraniol into nerol and linalool was achieved.
