Given the plethora of narrative and figurative paintings produced in the British Isles during the Victorian era, it is safe to say there is ample room for diverse approaches and studies of this subject and the often forgotten artists who created such works. Julia Thomas and Mary Cowling offer two contributions, one short and one long, and each addressing somewhat different audiences and aims.
