Abstract

Progress in the agricultural sciences is in large part responsible for America's abundance of food. Derived from natural and social sciences, the agricultural sciences are now distinct disciplines characterized by a high degree of interdisciplinary activity. Increasingly, agricultural research is seeking answers to fundamental questions related to making productive use of living things.
