Abstract
Conventional tillage recorded significantly lower total weed fresh biomass than paraquat (500 g ha−1) and glufosinate (300 g ha−1). Otherwise all other treatments including glufosinate (300 g ha−1) were equally good as conventional tillage. Pendimethalin and isoproturon remained at par, but recorded significantly lower broad-leaved and total weed fresh weight than control. Glufosinate (300, 450 and 600 g ha−1), glyphosate, paraquat, weed free (before sowing) and conventional tillage when supplemented with pendimethalin recorded a little higher seed yield of mustard than when applied alone. Glufosinate alone and glufosinate + pendimethalin at their respective doses, however remained at par. Glufosinate (450 g ha−1) was superior to glufosinate (375 g ha−1) in controlling Cynodon dactylon both at 20 DAT as well as at 40 DAT. Higher the dose of glyphosate, the greater was the Cynodon controll Paraquat alone remained quiie effective at 20 DAT, but proved inconsistent. However, paraquat (500 g ha−1) when mixed with glufosinate or glyphosate (150 g ha−1 and 410 g ha”−1, respectively) gave excellent control of Cynodon. Except metribuzin, all the herbicides including glufosinate (at both 375 g ha−1 and 450 g ha−1) recorded significantly lower fresh weight/dry weight ratio of Cyperus rotundus that in unweeded control at 20 DAT. However at 40 DAT, only glufosinate and glyphosate proved highly effective in reducing Cyperus growth than unweeded control.
