Abstract
Removal of cotyledons from intact lettuce seedlings retarded hypocotyle elongation caused by gibberellic acid. This inhibitory effect of cotyledon excision was alleviated by incubating decotylized seedlings with a hot water extarct from excised cotyledons or intact seedlings. This active principle was identified as dihydroconiferyl alcohol on the basis of its IR, NMR and mass spectra.
