Abstract
In the recent economic down turn, many small business such as boat builders went into administration. The purpose of this project was to identify a market segment within the new build yacht market with the aim of designing a suitable product. Most of the yachts berthed on the south coast were used for day sailing or occasional weekend use, by researching this large market, a potential customer’s needs and expectations of a new yacht were identified. By taking these findings a preliminary yacht design and build was explored.
