Abstract

The effects of rain and other hydrometeors on radio wave propagation has been the subject of intense study for many years. As the demand for satellite and terrestrial radio services increases more effort is being applied to make efficient use of the available bandwidth and power resources. The paper sets out the model developed by Essex University and British Telecom. The mathematical model and the associated software package BTPOWER are described. Some aspects of the results are presented. These results relate closely to the experimental geometries set up by British Telecom which aim to measure actual levels of interference. >
