This paper describes the preliminary design of a 30 feet sailing yacht with canting keel. The aim of this project is to create a new one design class to be sailed in inshore waters, providing spectacular round the buoys racing and \nhigh level of competition. The content of this report shows the design process and the technical specifications of the boat. This new design, inspired by dinghy designs, shows the problems encountered by trying to replicate the dinghy feel sailing on a 30 feet yacht. The method used to achieve this project consisted of putting in practice the theory learnt during the three years of the “Bachelor of Engineering in Yacht and Powercraft Design” offered \nby the Southampton Solent University, on every aspects of yacht design including: hull design, appendages design, rig design, stability, balance and performances prediction. The scope of the project extends from a preliminary parametric study up to a point where design parameters are set and only an optimization work has to be done before commercializing it.
