Abstract
This report presents the design of a fast cruising yacht with a study on shallow draft appendages. \nIn part A, after the design brief analysis, different kind of shallow draft appendages are described, a sensible length for the boat is determined, and a parametric study is done, as well as a preliminary weight estimate. After the preliminary design, different points are developed: \nFirst of all, the hull design, part B, where the choice of a hard chine hull, the specificity of this kind of hull, and the assessment of it performances are explained. \nIn part C, the structural design is developed. The ABS has been used. This part contends a discussion on wood properties, and the use and advantages of plywood to easily build a fast cheap sailing yacht. \nFinally, in part D, appendage design is developed. A sensible choice has to be made between a twin keel and a lifting single keel, in an attempt to design a shallow draft \nversion. First of the problem is analysed, some assumption are made on the limits of the theory used to determine the limits of both configurations.
