Abstract
In 1994, the Societe de l'assurance automobile du Quebec conducted two surveys to know to what extent professional traversing motor carriers were actually complying with the trip inspection and maintenance standards requirements. The survey's findings show that: (1) there is a great need for improving driver training regarding trip inspection; (2) the concept of preventive maintenance is misunderstood and not correctly implemented by many carriers, particularly the smallest ones (1 to 5 commercial motor vehicles); and (3) large carriers (51 vehicles and more) are those who seem to comply most with the requirements of both trip inspection and preventive maintenance standards.
