Abstract
The vehicle, alone or in conjunction with other factors, causes 10% of all fatal car accidents. Results of a survey carried out within the scope of insurance companies indicate that a large proportion of drivers are not concerned about safety and car maintenance. According to a study carried out in 12 countries of the European Community, introducing technical vehicle inspection and preventive maintenance programs could reduce non-fatal accidents ranging between 19,000 and 36,000 per year, not to mention saving some 1,200,000 tons of fuel per year, as well as reducing CO emissions by 22% and hydrocarbons by 10%. The possibilities for service companies, within this framework, are obvious.
