A new species of Microterys Thomson (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) from Yunnan, Southwest China.

In the present paper, a new species of Microterys Thomson from Yunnan, China is described. It was reared from the pest Ceroplastes sp. on Thevetia peruviana (Per.). All the type specimens are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Shaanxi Normal University.Microterys yunnanensis, sp. n. (figs. 1-3)Female: length 2.9-3.5mm including ovipositor.Coloration: head and body dominantly orange-brown. Axillae, scutellum, metanotum and middle part of propodeum dark brown. Abdomen: segements I -Ⅲ dark, segement IV brownish. Scutellum and basal abdomen with purple reflections. Antennae: scape concolorous with head; pedicel and funicle segements I -Ⅲ dark brown, paler ventrally; funicle segements IV -VI white; club dark. Legs with the coxae and basal femora of mid-legs dark brown, the rest brownish orange, sometimes fore-coxae slightly dark. Forewings infuscated with two pale cross-bands beyond the venation.Fronto-vertex very much narrow, about one-eighth of head width. Antennae (fig. 1) very long with scape about 3.5 times as long as broad; pedicel short, less than one-third of scape and about half of the first funicle segement; all funicle segements longer than broad and decreasing progressivelly in length; the first one about four times as long as broad, the last one about 1.4 times as long as broad;club as long as last two funicle segements combined. Scutellum with 32 setae, the apical pair very long. Forewings as shown in figure 2. Ovipositor very long, protruding strongly caudally.The new species is closed to Microterys indicus Subba Rao but can be easily distinguished from the latter by the coloration of metanotum and propodeum, the measurement of the fronto-vertex and the scrobes.Holotype , paratype 3 , Southern Lake, MengZi, County, Yunnan, China, July-1988, ex Ceroplastes sp. on Thevetia peruviana collected by Tan Yaogeng.
