Optimizing crop diversification.

Abstract

This chapter focuses on crop diversification at the farm level. The process by which they devise and manage cropping systems to meet their objectives is explained by providing examples. The effects of farmers' decisions regarding crop diversification on the broader requirements of the society are evaluated. The nature of cropping systems, the role of management and inputs to their productivity and sustainability, and the concept of optimization at the farm level are described.
