Abstract

The dynamic cone penetrometer has proved valuable for providing infill data between boreholes and giving a continuous stength profile. It can be employed at locations not economically accessible to other apparatus. However, only sparse information has been published for the interpretation of results and general correlations have therefore been developed against SPT, shear strength, and static cone resistance for specific soil types. The effects of rod friction must be considered and corrections based on torque readings have been developed. In cohesive soils the low cone resistance and relative magnitude of torque correction, at depth, imposes limitations on the application of the technique.(A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 828222.
