Abstract
EPA's air quality standards for lead and ozone are measured against mandates made for air quality standards in the Clean Air Act of 1977. Under the act, standards must be based on the latest scientific data and must protect the public health. EPA may have taken economic considerations into account when it set up current standards; such considerations are impermissible under the act. Actions taken by EPA in the setting of air quality standards for lead and ozone are reviewed. (124 references)
