Abstract
Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) technology is an option that has come of age for cogeneration applications. Their greater fuel flexibility, fuel efficiency, availability and environmental performance have given rise to satisfied CFB users all over the world. The systems can burn just about anything that has fuel value, including high-sulfur coal, anthracite culm and waste fuels. And, it will burn these cheaper fuels more cleanly than conventional systems burn high-grade, high-cost fuels. Another advantage to this fuel flexibility is that the user can burn whatever is available, minimizing fuel transportation costs. Long-term fuel availability without political control is also gaining recognition as an important factor that can contribute to low fuel cost over the life of the facility. The principles behind CFB combustion are briefly described.
