Abstract

A great many books have been published on the subject of bridge aesthetics. By and large, the advice in such literature is based on innate/intuitive understanding, with the judgment of whether a bridge is aesthetically pleasing being the sole determination of the author. The message of this paper is not such another such treatise, but instead is an effort to present several rational approaches to the subject, as related to steel bridges.
