TRAMWAYS AND UNDERGROUND RAILWAYS HAVE THEIR OWN PERMANENT SITE: THE MUNICH TRAMS RUN FOR ABOUT 75% OF THEIR JOURNEYS ON THEIR OWN TRACK. DURING RECENT YEARS THE MUNICH FEEDER BUS AUTHORITIES HAVE PROVIDED A TOTAL OF 15.3 KM OF BUS LANES, IN ORDER TO SEPARATE BUSES FROM PRIVATE TRANSPORT DURING THE CONGESTED PEAK PERIODS. BUS LANES WERE DESIGNED FOR A FLOW OF AT LEAST 16 BUSES PER HOUR AND ARE NORMALLY 3.50 M WIDE, BUT IN CERTAIN CASES HAVE A MINIMUM OF 2.90 M. WHEN INSTALLING A BUS LANE, THE SUM OF THE TRAVEL TIME GAINED BY THE PASSENGERS SHOULD EXCEED THE SUM OF THE TRAVEL TIME LOST BY PRIVATE TRAFFIC. A FURTHER 2.3 KM OF BUS LANES ARE PLANNED. THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES A SERIES OF PERMANENT BUS LANES AND TEMPORARY BUS LANES, COMMON BUS AND TRAM TRACKS AND BUS STOP LAYOUTS.
