Abstract

With the current developments and enthusiasm for the Intelligent Vehicle Highway System (IVHS) for the increased operational improvement of our congested highway systems, research is required for identifying and developing the safety improvements that can be obtained from these systems. Current research and development is underway to do just that. This paper provides a review of the safety-related research of the advanced technology being conducted in the U.S. and how it is being applied to improve highway safety.
