Abstract

RATP (Paris Transport authority) has put the first driverless revenue service metro line (Meteor) into service. It is the fourteenth line of the Paris Metro. The trains are driven by fully automated systems and do not require RATP employees on board. This fundamental choice was made for technical, economical and staffing reasons in order to ensure an excellent service. The automatic train control system has been designed to allow a mixed circulation of both automated trains and manually driven trains in order to facilitate the progressive automation of conventional metro lines.
