Abstract
The former municipal landfill site at Ferry Road is located between the Rivers Ely and Taff close to Cardiff Bay and is within the 1,100 hectares of largely derelict land designated for re-development under the remit of Cardiff Bay Development Corporation (CBDC). Engineering works have been carried out to allow development of areas on and immediately adjacent to the former municipal tip. These works, carried out in 1995, have included the re-location of deposits of refuse and contaminated soils onto an area of the tip re-activiated under the terms of a Waste Management Licence. The design aspects of the landfill management for the reactivated tip, with particular reference to the proposed measures to control leachate, are described in this paper.
