Abstract

The Community Transportation Association of America envisions the creation of a national network of public and community transportation with increased investment in rural and small urban communities. In response to the impending reauthorization of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) in 2003, the association calls for new funding strategies and deregulation to assist in the creation of a national program for community transit. Highlights are given of transit-related regulations which warrant closer examination. The article also reviews the list of Senators who may still be in office in 2003 and examines the possibilities for increased federal interest in public transportation.
