Lane Transit Launches BRT Service

This article describes the launching of the Eugene, Oregon Lane Transit District’s (LTD) new bus rapid transit system (BRT). The system, known as Emerald Express (EmX), travels from Springfield to Eugene in 38% less time than such trips had taken previously. The articulated buses cost $960,000, allow for 44 occupants, and are 63 feet in length. This route, the Green Line, is only the first of LTD’s BRT routes, with a plan for a six mile long expansion called the Pioneer Parkway that will further connect different parts of Eugene and Springfield. This extension will be funded by the federal Small Starts program, and was deemed by environmental officials to have No Significant Impact.
