Abstract
Corsica's meter gauge rail network is being revitalized through a comprehensive investment program to renew track and trains. This has done much to raise the quality of Corsican rail operations. One example of this investment is new colorlight signaling from Vossloh on the Bastia Casamozza route, commissioned in November 2008. After the award of a new operating concession by the regional government, further expansion may follow. Modernization, low-floor trains, infrastructure renewal, and future developments are examined. The conclusion is reached that the Corsican rail network's successful rehabilitation and steady ridership growth demonstrate that meter gauge railroads can provide relevant and successful service meeting regional transportation needs, even in difficult terrain.
