Abstract

Objective To investigate the protective role of 3′-Methoxypuerarin(3′-MOP) in hippocampal neurons against ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats.Method Rats were randomly divided into an ischemia/reperfusion(IR) group,an IR+3′-MOP group and a control group.Histological changes in the neurons of the hippocampal CA1 region were observed with HE staining. The apoptotic neurons in hippocampal CA1 area were counted with TUNEL staining.Result Compared with IR group,3′-MOP could increase the number of surviving neurons in hippocampal CA1 region(P0.01) and markedly reduce the number of apoptotic pyramidal neurons(P0.01)after ischemia/reperfusion injury. Conclusion 3′-Methoxypuerarin can protect the hippocampal neurons against ischemia/reperfusion injury via reducing the inhibiting apoptosis.
